VMWare ESXi, Virtualization, Citrix: Is Data Center Security what we need?

I need a solution

Hello all,

I was tasked with figuring out what the best solution is to make sure that all of our virtualized guests and their respective hosts are protected from viruses and security threats. We presently have two data centers running different clusters of VMWare ESXi servers. These servers are responsible for running Citrix and / or Unidesk virtual desktops for various users. We have had problems in the past with using SEPM on the virtual machines, and are looking for an agentless solution and one that isn't going to hog system resources.

My boss has been poking around and has come up with different solutions. We had found the SEP Virtual Security Appliance, however from what I'm reading that does in fact require each client have SEP installed. He then found Data Center Security, and believes that may be what we need. Can you please confirm this? http://www.symantec.com/data-center-security/

The other question we have is if this works, how does the license work? Do you just need to have licenses for each host it's on, or do all guest machines require an active license as well?

Any and all information is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!
